Oki C110 Printer has plenty to offer

The Oki C110 is really a simple, affordable colour laser printer.

For people looking for fast tidy text, the straightforward mono laser has had plenty to offer nowadays. Although let’s say, whilst the majority of your needs may focus about words, every now and then you are feeling the need to print completely in colour? Colour lasers are quite expensive, when purchasing an inkjet along with a mono laser could certainly require a quite substantial desk.

Oki isn’t a company recognized for its affordable pricing approach, yet here, it developed an incredibly affordable laser in the Oki C110 that focuses upon formidable text capabilities, and can at the same time handle a few coloured prints if the need arises.

To say that the Oki C110 is a no-frills model is to put it rather mildly. The old-fashioned casing and rough-edged paper trays look distinctly out of place compared to the fine curves and smooth lines of many of today’s printers. To begin with, we were positive that the output tray of the Oki C110 appeared to be either upside-down or perhaps back to front, as the input tray seems just half-finished. On the other hand, they have done a really great job.

The input tray of the Oki C110 will take as much as 200 sheets, which isn’t at all bad for a low priced laser – and even puts a lot of inkjets to shame. However, this printer has an annoying habit of not always propelling the printed sheets into the output tray.

Despite our reservations, though, this never caused any paper jams. Much more of a problem has been the Oki C110′s tendency to put the paper size to Letter as default – if this wasn’t checked out and changed, A4 print jobs seemed to be carrying on initially, only for the printer to begin flailing right after the 2nd sheet.

The moment we were aware of this, though, the Oki C110 accomplished its job reliably – however it’s not the quietest of printers, it creates a really irritating noice when printing.

Toner cartridges for the C110 come in a capacity of 2,500 pages for the black and either 1,500 or 2,500 for each of the colours.

The Oki C110 comes only with USB 2., even though an improved model, the Oki C130n, priced at around £60 more, features Ethernet support, duplex facilities (for automatic printing to both sides of the paper), as well as the option of changing the paper input from 200 to 700 sheets.

Oki has invested lots of time ensuring that the Oki C110′s text abilities are up to scratch. The text is not as dark compared with one or two lasers, but neither is it in any way faint, whilst the characters are generally very cleanly defined. The Oki C110 churns out pages at a very creditable 15.8 pages per minute on top resolution. It doesn’t make it incredibly quick for a laser, yet it’s certainly not the slowest we’ve analyzed, and only a handful, if any, inkjets might get even close to this kind of speed with their high-quality setting.

As a text printer, then, the Oki C110 is excellent for the money. It isn’t quite so outstanding as a colour model, although the palette appeared quite realistic – if a touch light in some places – this measures up well with most printers. Printing at 2.5 pages per minute, it’s very slow for a laser, yet again few inkjets could match such performance in their highest quality mode.

The Oki C110s running costs aren’t really low, but 2-2.5p per page of mono (close to 1p more for colour) nevertheless makes this a pretty inexpensive printer to operate – particularly compared to the typical inkjet.
