Getting to Know the Boston Terrier Breed

A breed of dogs that is usually considered as an “All-American” dog is the Boston terrier breed.  These dogs are known for their intelligence, liveliness, pleasant disposition, and strength.  When looking for a dog that conveys strength and activeness, Boston terriers are an excellent choice.  This breed of dogs was developed in Boston after the American Civil War period.  They came about as a cross between a white English Terrier and an English Bulldog and were initially trained as fighting dogs. In honor of the city where they were first developed, the breed became popular as Boston Terriers in 1891.

The Boston terrier breed, due to its appearance and personality traits, has been referred to as “the American Gentleman.”  There is something about the dog’s appearance that suggests an air of refinement.  They are dapper, gentle, and most suitable as house pets and steadfast companions.  They do not also require too much work from owners and trainers as they require minimum grooming and amounts of exercise.  They easily adapt to training and love the company of their owners, always preferring to be by their side.

The Boston terrier breed maintains a sure footed, straight gait.  They walk with an air of power and grace.  They possess a coat that is characterized as fine in texture.  Their coat is short and smooth to the touch.  The dapper and charming appearance, couple with its lively and gentle demeanor has made Boston terriers a hit for those who want pets with a distinguished air.
